Jain temples, Kundalpur

Jain temple · Mahavira (held by Digambaras to have been born here); also Rishabhanatha and Gau · Kundalpur, Nalanda, Bihar

Digambara Jains come because they hold this to be Kundgram, the birthplace of Mahavira

A complex of six temples built in yellow Jaisalmer stone, established in 2003 under Ganini Gyanmati Mataji, with a principal shikhara rising 51 ft topped by a golden flag. Five temples hold idols of Mahavira, Rishabhanatha and Gautama Swami; a separate building holds images of 72 Jinas. The modern complex stands about 1 km from the older Simhamukhi Teela temple. Dharamshala accommodation for pilgrims is available on site. Note that the Digambara claim that this is Mahavira's birthplace is disputed - other Jain traditions place it at Basukund near Vaishali.
