To perform jalabhishek at an ancient linga on the Uttarvahini Ganga at the Ganga-Kosi confluence...
A Shiva temple at the foot of Bateshwar hill on the north-flowing bank of the Ganga, at the point where the Ganga and Kosi meet. The Shivalinga is held to have been established by the sage Vashishtha, which is why the older name is Vashishtheshwar Mahadev; the place is also called Gupta Kashi and a taposthali. A Maa Kali temple faces the main shrine.
