Abhishek Pushkarni
Sacred pool · Vaishali, Bihar
Pilgrims visit it as a holy bathing tank of the Lichchhavis, tied both to the Buddha's stay at Kolhua...
A brick-lined, seven-tiered tank about 65 m by 35 m with bathing ghats, held sacred by the Lichchhavis. Tradition says monkeys dug it for the Buddha, which gives it the name Markat-Hrad. The elected representatives of the Vaishali republic were anointed from its water before taking office.
